Miss Guatemala wins the Miss Universe 2009 River Race
Miss Guatemala, Lourdes Figueroa recieved the Gold Medal, followed by Miss Iceland, Ingibjorg Egilsdottir who won Silver and Miss Albania, Hasna Xhukici with Bronze Medal. All three stepped into an olympic-like podium to receive their medals from Dayana Mendoza, Miss Universe 2008.
The Miss Universe 2009 contestants took part in a friendly competition held by the Atlantis resort: The Miss Universe River Race, which was held on Saturday Morning as a tension breaker before the Preliminary Competition on Sunday night.
The contestants were split into 4 groups: Red, Orange, Yellow and Blue. Each candidate was given a river tube and a custom-made wetsuit with their national flag.
The first five candidates in each group who made it to the end line first, would advance to the next round of competition.
