Rachel Dechavez Esquieres was born in Vancouver BC of pure Filipino heritage. At 22 years old, she had completed her Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications at Sacred Heart College in Lucena City Quezon, Philippines. On her way to what she hopes is a career in Broadcast Journalism, Rachel's goal is to have the honor of becoming the nest Miss Universe Canada added in her well rounded resume.
Ultimately, Rachel hopes that personal success will translate into opportunities to help the less fortunate. Spending significant parts of her life on two sides of the globe (Canada and the Philippines) opened Rachel's eyes to the disparity between the rich and the poor which moved her to volunteer in fundraisers for the adopted communities of her College. She volunteered in feeding street children, and also taught them biblical scriptures and basic Math and English.
As a student, Rachel had received excellent remarks during her practicum in her third year in College where she had been a TV host, model, Floor Director and Script writer. She was the English President in 2009. Rachel had won the award for best MTV of 2009 that she had produced and directed at her College and was a nominee for best Short Movie of the year. Rachel was very active in extra curricular activities as a College student believing that Education is one of the most precious treasures that no one can ever take from her.
In 2004, Rachel became Miss Lucban (the town pageant in the Philippines) followed by Miss Southern Tagalog in 2005 (the Regional pageant). Rachel believes that through having to win the prestigious title of Miss Universe Canada, her dream of making a difference in the lives of possible future leaders which are the children of the world would make it possible as she speaks in their behalf reaching out to everyone and remind them of the many blessings that they have that can be shared to all.
