FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT MY HOMETOWN/COUNTRY:
The Bahamas has a rich history. Being the first country in the New World that was discovered by Christopher Columbus, The Bahamas suffered slavery, yet brilliantly and bravely gained its’ independence. Therefore, I am very proud to be apart of a country with such great strength and accomplishments, a small country that is notable participant in the global market. The weather in the Bahamas is very pleasant and there are ecotourism benefits. These are just a few reasons why persons describe being in The Bahamas as like being in paradise. And finally – and this is probably most important to me - the Caribbean taste. What is life without a real Bahamian Peas and Rice with some nicely seasoned Fried Snapper, Conch Salad or my favorite desert Guava Duff? There is no other place in the world where you can really get that great flavor. There are just so many wonderful things about my hometown and the above are just a few.
LIFE'S AMBITITIONS:
My life’s ambition is to maximize every opportunity available to me. It is my desire to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in a secure offshore banking field to liaise with international markets. It is my desire as well to impact lives by being a role model who has been greatly influenced by education.
HOBBIES:
Spending time with my nieces and nephews, watching T.V., reading, community service and drawing.
MY GOALS IN LIFE:
To attain my degrees, not just my current Degree in Banking and Finance with Spanish but a Degree in Languages and Psychology; to assist community minded organizations and thus to have made a significant impact in my community and hopefully the world through education; and to have acquired my own home.
MY BEST ASSET IS:
My best asset is my relationship with God. Having a personal relationship with my source, my creator is definitely an advantage to have throughout life. It keeps me in line with who I am, my purpose, my beliefs and it illuminates me, allowing me to have a great personality, good attitude towards people and life itself. Knowing who I am makes it possible for me to be able to positively influence my family, friends, community and the world at large.
MY DAILY PHILOSOPHY IS:
To die empty (inspired by the sermon of Bishop Ellis), to have not robbed the world of the gift that God gave me which rightfully belongs to it. Therefore it is critical that I be my ultimate best, being determined that my purpose is carried out in the midst of all circumstances.
THE MOVIE (AND/OR BOOK) THAT MOST INFLUENCED MY LIFE:
Although I am not a big fan of thriller movies, it so happens that my favorite movie is Doomsday. This is because I admire the fearlessness of the actress Rhona Mitra. Being fearless, allows you to accomplish your assignment in life. A very interesting book is the Bible. I have learned to appreciate not just its’ profound wisdom but its very timelessness, its real life drama, its humor, its romance and its inspiration.
WHO I WOULD LIKE TO MEET AND WHY
I was sitting one day in the beauty salon and I came across an EBONY magazine with a special tribute to Eunice W. Johnson (Trail Blazer) 1916-2010. I was amazed after reading the testimonies of her daughter, friends, and employers who talked about her contribution to Fashion, education and her life as a philanthropist. I really would have liked to have met Mrs. Johnson, a woman of great discipline and grace, mainly because of similar interests in life.
I AM MOTIVATED BY:
I am motivated by persons who rise above difficult circumstances and achieve.
WHAT I WOULD LIKE THE JUDGES TO KNOW ABOUT ME IS:
I would like the judges to know that I am a humble and loving person who cares and desires greatness for all.
MY COMMUNITY SERVICE/ACHIEVEMENTS ARE:
Currently I serve as both the Secretary and Treasurer of The Univision Charitable Organization. As the secretary I ensure that the Board is organized and fully equipped to accomplish our objective. My position allows me to act as and HR and I am to ensure creativity and make the club and meetings interesting and successful. As the treasurer I am responsible for keeping and financial records. Report all expenses, income, bank balances, report on all account receivables and account payables. It is my responsibility that the organization has sufficient funds to carry out its' stated aims.
