Glena Lavemai
Age: 19
Height: 179 cm.
Weight: 65 kg
Measurements: 91-71-101
BIO:
Occupation: Performer and Dance Instructor
My country, Tonga is the only monarchy in the South Pacific and one of the few countries in the world who maintains its royal family. Family unity is extremely important along with her culture. Sundays are completely devoted to worshipping. It is very special and inspiring how everyone comes together for the same purpose. All these things I believe are key components towards success and well being.
Describe your childhood when you were growing up from 8 to 13 years old.
My childhood is one full of dancing memories. Attending dance classes 3-4 times a week. It was the best and happiest times. There was always competition and show cases. To make things better as a child, we moved in with my grandparents so that my mum could look after them as well. I was always surrounded by love and support so all I have to do is to achieve and be successful.
What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
I have learnt that there is always room for improvement. There is never an ending point to how much you know or how good you are at something. Everyday, I believe there are new lessons to learn and ways to better yourself. As a child, I was taught never to put yourself above others no matter what. I have learned how to humble myself towards others and share with them the little knowledge I have.
What is your most memorable moment?
The most memorable moment is watching my parents walking up to the stage this year as I was crowned as Miss Earth Tonga 2010. I had flash backs of all these memories and I was crying with joy and thinking how much my parents helped me to achieve everything all these years. I had not felt so proud and appreciative in all my life. It was the best feeling ever.
What is your environmental advocacy?
Marine Environment. The people of Tonga love the water and by raising awareness about keeping our water clean is a must. Water is life and coming from an Island surrounded by the ocean makes me realize that I am fortunate enough to have such a beautiful country as my home. Therefore, maintaining the beauty of this element is a priority.
