Miss Vermont, Karsen Woods

Biography: Karsen is a junior at Essex High School. She is an active member of her schools GSTA (Gay, Straight, Transgender Alliance) Club and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) club. Her works in these clubs included organizing a school wide bullying protest sit-in, and various surveys and informational meetings about seat-belt safety, healthy relationship practices, and making healthy life-style choices. Throughout high school she has been involved with basketball, track, and gymnastics. At the age of 15 Karsen began her first job as a dishwasher and worked there for 2 years, she now works as a cashier at a local grocery store.
Of all Wood's volunteer works she is most passionate about her involvement with the Special Olympics of Vermont, the school’s Unified Sports Club, and the Howard Center. Karsen has been very closely connected to people with special needs due to her mom’s life long involvement in the career field. Karsen hopes to stay active with the Special Olympics and potentially dedicate her life to Special Education as her mother and grandmother have.
She believes her one strongest talent is her ability to remain a strong leader under difficult conditions. Karsen's favorite hobbies include skiing,hiking, gymnastics, cooking, reading, writing, shopping and teaching her little sister everything she knows. She describes herself as outgoing, comical and genuine.
