Miss Nebraska, Sarah Summers

Notes: Former Nebraska's National American Miss Junior Teen 2010 and National American Miss Junior Teen 2010.
Biography: Sarah attends Papillion-La Vista South High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the honor roll. Sarah is also a recipient of the Award of Academic Excellence, which is presented to students who are in the top 10 percent of their class. She is an active member of the Student Council, yearbook staff, varsity show choir, track and field team, and Circle of Friends, a club dedicated to assisting special needs children. She had a lead role in the her high school's musical in 2011, and she previously participated on the varsity dance team.
Summers is passionate about community service. In recognition of leadership and service to others, she received the Gold Service Award from the Papillion Areas Lions Club in 2010 and 2012. She is currently active in Project Linus. This national organization donates handmade blankets to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Through Project Linus, Sarah has donated over 350 blankets in the past four years to Nebraska hospitals. She also has her own service project, Jeans for Teens, where she collects jeans and donates them to a local shelter. She is a Relay for Life Team Captain and has raised over $5,000 throughout the past four years for the American Cancer Society, in memory of her grandmother. Sarah also dedicates time to the Ronald McDonald House, Salvation Army, March of Dimes, Race for the Cure, and the CureSearch Walk. Sarah engages in numerous speaking engagements, where she emphasizes the importance of education and volunteering.
