INTERVIEW:
What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
I will promote the anti-nuclear project and ocean protection project in advance. Nature should be the way they are. Man-made production is just like additional flavorings of dishes: less is more. Nuclear energy is fully made by human. I think we should have more protection after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. I prefer to use Alternative Energy to avoid the tragedy. Approximately 72% of the planet's surface is covered by water. Therefore, ocean has power to change the earth ecology. Ocean cannot fix itself with too much waste from industry, fishing boat, sea floor exploration and mining industry. I know if we can protect the ocean more, the damage on earth will be less.
What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
Taiwan acquired the name Formosa or beautiful island because of her nature beauty. We have beaches, coasts, mountains, forests, wetlands, canyon, bays, lagoons, coral reefs and amazing nature spots. Because of the weather, Taiwan has varieties of fruit. They’re so juicy and nutritious. Our people are generous and hospitable. We become close easily and love to help others and foreigners. There has so much delicious food stands and restaurants in night market. And we have many night markets that attract people. The number of convenient stores here is highest number in the world. Taiwanese pride themselves in their hospitality, and are committed to creating a friendly and convenient living environment for others. Taiwan is extremely famous for being eco-friendly. We have the policy of per-bag trash collection fee in Taipei city. And last Taiwan has the world’s tallest eco-building Taipei 101.
Describe your childhood/growing years (8-13 years old)
Without my mother, who passed away when I was a 5-year-old child, my father is my closest family member. He always taught me and my brother to respect our motherland so that I can develop respect for others. We were living in a country near the strait in Taiwan. Therefore, the impressive memory in my childhood is that I usually went to the port, fishing with my father, swimming, hanging around in fish market, doing any outdoor sport and activities. Those times made me familiar with water. That’s the reason why I am outgoing and energetic.
What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
I am independent and tolerant. And I learned to share love and happiness with others since I know this is the best way to find love. “Less is more” is what I learned from the past. The best progress is to be balanced. With passion for the ocean, I became concerned about marine conservation. The wonderful color of the sea should be cherished by humans on earth. I realize that every man can be courageous enough to influence others towards the right idea in maintaining clean environment for communities, nations and the whole planet. A thought was nurtured which led me to do something helpful for our earth, which could make us enjoy our lives and give us the essential element of life.
What is your most memorable moment?
A scene I couldn’t imagine before is the moment I won the title of Miss Taiwan til I really got it. It gives me chances to travel around, experiencing different cultures by making friends with girls from nations, introducing my country and letting me know it’s possible to broadcast ideals to the world. And when I was singing on stage for the audience at the finals in Albania, I felt so inspired to share what’s in my heart to everyone. I still cannot forget the feeling and the trembling. It gave me strength to carry on. I felt an immense gratitude to the judges and audience for recognizing me and knowing who I am. At the finals I won Miss Talent.
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
In my opinion, my goal is to raise awareness of environmental protection. We can act much better if we realize its importance. So I prefer to let everyone know how to use sustainable energy by promoting green consumption and green building in our daily life. I would like to suggest making a series of videos about environmental advocacies. Through power of media, the ideas will be deeply rooted in our minds. These will not just educate the next generation but bring us to start taking action individually.
What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
We can purchase green products and support companies that create of these ideas and products. For example, using compact fluorescent light bulbs, installing Solar Hot Water, changing to energy-efficient appliances, these are basic knowledge of green life. If we want to spread these tips, we can use the power of social network. Using youtube for uploading videos daily, writing blogs for facebook, twitter and google+ and setting a green center/ shop/mall/store up where our environmental projects can be easily searched. As long as it will be managed patiently and creatively, will be a great way to promote sustainable energy.
Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
I cannot wait to be in this meaningful beauty pageant. It does not only broaden my vision but it enables me to promote such wonderful ideas internationally. Thanks to MEM for giving this opportunity for nations to communicate. I have heard that the Philippines has amazing scenery of nature and beautiful islands so I’m pretty excited about this trip. I sincerely wish the best to you all.
